The New French Interior Design School of New York City.
Bonjour!
I’m FRED (Frédérique), and I design and build interiors, furniture, and decorative objects for every kind of living environment — from hospitality and corporate spaces to private homes in New York. Since 2007, my work has been dedicated to creating an unexpected harmony between practicality and aesthetics, always with a commitment to sustainable materials and thoughtful construction.
With my team, I accompany each client from the very first sketch to the final finishing touches. We listen closely, we translate dreams into form, and we guide every phase of the process; design, drafting, clean deconstruction, construction, production, procurement, and styling with meticulous care and environmental awareness.
My deep connection to the art world fuels my search for rare and exquisite pieces that enrich my clients’ collections. At FRED Interiors, I begin by listening: how you want to live, what you want to feel, and what will make you happy. From there, I craft a visual story one we both “fall in love with” and together we bring it to life.
In all my work, and in the way I live my life, I look for juxtapositions between balance and contrast: grace with simplicity, graphic lines with soft edges, warmth with intensity, the timeless with the durable. Every project becomes a dialogue between these forces, shaped by the spirit and desires of the people who inhabit the space.
NEW YORK
As Creative Director for Par Excellence NYC, I built collaborations between high‑end New York clients and Europe’s finest artisans and architects. In 2017, I opened my New York studio, designing refined residential interiors and furniture. These experiences led me to co‑found EMBARGO, a collection of furniture, lighting, and objects crafted with master artisans in Europe and Mexico.
EARLY YEARS
I grew up in France near the Belgian border, surrounded by French Medieval art and the bold contemporary style of my
parents’ world. I attended boarding school in Lille before seeking new horizons and crossing the Atlantic to California, where I spent two years studying Architecture and Photography under the renowned Henri Gilpin, a student of Ansel Adams, all while absorbing the playful, hands‑on spirit of Martha Stewart’s DIY world. Those years opened my eyes to the architectural landscapes of Palm Springs, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, and in an unexpected twist, deepened my appreciation for the Bayeux Tapestries and the craft traditions behind them.
Returning to France, I graduated from Paris’s prestigious ESAG Penninghen Académie Julian before working as an interior designer in several Parisian studios and eventually opening my own practice.
I fell in love with the contemporary artist Guillaume Leblon, and in 2009 I built his first 3,500‑sq‑ft artist studio in the Paris suburbs, integrating green solutions for roofing, construction materials, and waste recycling. We had two sons, and while my husband pursued his art, my entrepreneurial spirit grew as I dreamed of bringing our family — and our work — to New York.
Over the years, we have collaborated with Artists, CEOs, families, and Owners to create projects that feel truly right for them. The pieces we design live at the intersection of function and poetic intention.
“Every project is unique, in perfect harmony with its environment and infused with my client’s desires and spirit. This is what I love about what I do.”
